Tips For Purchasing A Motorcycle

Before you buy a motorcycle there is a typically quite a bit of research that needs to be done in order to located the bike that best suits your wants and needs.  Because there are so many different types of motorcycles available, the choice is not always cut and dry.  One thing that you’ll want to consider is the type of riding that you enjoy the most, and how much riding you actually plan on doing, just to name a couple things.

One thing is true and that is the fact that there are a LOT of different styles of motorcycle available for purchase.  If you plan on spending a lot of time on your motorcycle, meaning long trips, then you’ll want to go for at least some level of comfort and durability.  You may also want to consider functionality when purchasing a motorcycle.  For example, you may want to have a lot of storage options when you travel so that you can carry your personal belongings with you.

Other types of motorcycles are built for different purposes including racing, riding off road, or just for bumming around town, in which case you might want to purchase a scooter.  You’ll want to purchase these types of motorcycles based on your individual needs.

For first time riders, it is recommend that a smaller body bike with and engine that has less power be purchased for the simple fact that it takes time to get used to riding and you may not be very experienced at first to handle a large machine.  You may not want to take the chance of wrecking a much more expensive new motorcycle when you’re just learning how to ride.  Once you become more experienced, then you can go with the more expensive bike.

Make sure that the motorcycle you are looking at purchasing fits your body style.  It has to fit you properly in order to keep you comfortable and safe on the road.  Safety should be your first concern, and purchasing a motorcycle that you are not able to handle properly because it is too big for your body size is not going to help you maintain the proper safety level.

You’ll know if the motorcycle in question fits you properly if you sit on it with the kickstand down and your feet both can touch the ground.  If you cannot touch both feet on the ground, then the bike is too big for you and you should look at something smaller, or consider having it customized to fit you better.  Make sure you can reach other components comfortably like the handlebars and brakes.

Price is also one of the more important factors to consider when buying a motorcycle.  Make sure you set your budget and then look for bikes that fall within that budget.  This will keep you from spending too much for you to handle.  You may also consider purchasing a used version of the motorcycle you want if the new version is priced too high.  Also determine whether or not you will be willing to finance a new motorcycle and make monthly payments on it if that gets you the bike you really want

Motorcycling can be an exciting and rewarding experience, and can allow you to spend some quality out on the open road.  If you’re on the market for a new machine, be sure to take your time and fully research all of your options so you get the best possible outcome for your situation.

Buying A Motorcycle At The Best Possible Price

Buying a motorcycle for the first time can be a great experience, but can also be a frustrating experience if you don’t know how to get the best price.  After all, you shouldn’t have to pay more for your motorcycle than you really need to.  It’s important that you try and pay the lowest possible cost for your motorcycle in order to lower monthly payments, as well as the number of payments that you have to make.

One thing to remember is not to spend more than you can afford.  Set a budget for yourself and if possible, try and spend under your budget limit, even if this means downgrading your choice of motorcycle slightly.  It’s better to buy something that you’ll enjoy at a price that you can afford versus buying something you’ll enjoy at a price you can’t afford.  Remember, you can always upgrade after you’ve saved up more money or are going to trade you current bike in.  If you insist on having a model that is not quite within your budge, but you just have to have it, then that is a decision that you will have to make for yourself.

You can start by researching the type of motorcycle that you would like to have by locating information online or at dealerships in your area.  Determine what price you will want to pay and then determine which models fall within your price range.  Keep in mind that dealerships will add to the overall base cost of the motorcycle when it comes from the manufacturer in order to cover their costs which include commission, fees, documentation, and taxes.  They’ll also try to convince you to buy an extended warranty in order to cover any damages that may occur.  You’ll want to review this option to see whether or not it is something you would consider purchasing.

If you currently have a motorcycle, then you will most likely be able to trade it in and put that value towards the purchase of a new one.  If you are going to go this route, make sure you research the overall value of your motorcycle so you know you are getting a fair value on trade in.  If you currently owe on a loan for the purchase of your original motorcycle, then you may want to consider selling in privately as this is going to allow you to get the most for your bike.  That way you can pay off any amount that you still owe.  If you can put money down on the new machine, you may be offered a discount for doing so.

When dealing with dealerships on the selling price of the new motorcycle, it is often times advantageous for you to get pre-approved for financing if that is the route you are going to take.  Doing so will establish a maximum price that you can pay, and will keep you from going over budget.  If financing is how you are going to pay for the motorcycle, make sure you try and get the lowest interest rate so you don’t end up paying too much for it in the long run.  You may find that the dealership can offer lower rates than if you were to go through a bank so be sure to consider all of your options with regard to financing.

Getting the best possible price on a motorcycle is not a difficult thing to do.  It just takes a little time and effort on your part to find the best deals out there, and to secure the best possible interest rates if financing is going to be your method of payment.  Always remember to negotiate with the dealership on the final price.  If they aren’t willing to budge on the price, then there are plenty of other dealers that most likely will.
